IDIOMS CONTAIN "NEWS" AND "SHOE"

1. Be bad news for sb/sth: to be likely to cause problems [có khả năng gây rắc rối cho ai/điều gì]

Ví dụ: Central heating is bad news for indoor plants.

2. Break the news (to somebody): to be the first to tell somebody some bad news [báo tin xấu trước tiên]

3. Be good news (for somebody/something):to be likely to be helpful or give an advantage. [có thể hữu ích hay là lợi thế cho ai/điều gì]

Ví dụ: The cut in interest rates is good news for homeowners.

4. No news is good news: (saying) if there were bad news we would hear it, so as we have heard nothing, it is likely that nothing bad has happened. [không có tin gì nghĩa là mọi chuyện đều ổn]

5. Bad news travels fast: Information about trouble or misfortune disseminates quickly (more quickly than good news). [tiếng dữ đồn xa]

Ví dụ: John: Hi, Andy. I'm sorry to hear you got fired. (Chào Andy, tới rất tiết về việc cậu bị bổng)

6. Be in someone's shoes | put yourself in someone's shoes :to be in, or imagine that you are in, another person's situation, especially when it is an unpleasant or difficult one [đặt mình vào hoàn cảnh của người khác; ở vào tình cảnh của ai]

Ex: I wouldn't like to be in your shoes when they find out about it.

(Họ mà phát hiện ra tôi không muốn lâm vào tình cảnh giống như cậu)

7. Fill someone's shoes: to do someone's job in an acceptable way when they are not there [kế nhiệm ai]

Ví dụ: I don't know how we'll be able to do without you. No one can fill your shoes.

8. If I were in your shoes :used to introduce a piece of advice you are giving to someone [(dùng để cho lời khuyên) nếu tôi là cậu]

9. If the shoe fits (, wear it): (proverb) if you feel that a remark applies to you, you should accept it and take it as a warning or criticism [có tật giật mình]

Ex: When the policeman was arrested, he learned what it was like to have the shoe on other foot.
