152. Knowledge is power: The more you know, the more you can control. [kiến thức là sức mạnh]

+ (used after a noun) as a whole; in general [nhìn chung, nói chung]

154. Rest on one's laurels: (usually disapproving)  to feel so satisfied with what you have already achieved that you do not try to do any more [yên tâm thụ hưởng, không nỗ lực thêm; ngủ quên trên chiến thắng.]

Ví dụ: We rested on our laurels too long. Our competitors took away a lot of our business.

(Chúng ta đã ngủ quên trong chiến thắng quá lâu. Các đối thủ đã vượt mặt chúng ta rất nhiều)

155. Turn over a new leaf: to change your way of life to become a better, more responsible person [thay đổi hẳn cách sống; làm lại cuộc đời mới; lật sang một trang mới.]

Ví dụ: Why don't you turn over a new leaf and surprise everyone with your good characteristics?

(Sao cậu không lột xác trở thành con người mới để mọi người ngạc nhiên với tính cách tốt của cậu?)

156. Have  a hollow leg: to have a great capacity or need for food or drink [uống rượu như hũ chìm; nhậu như thùng không đáy.]

Ví dụ: Bobby can drink more beer than I can afford. I think he has a hollow leg!

157. Pull someone's leg: (informal) to play a joke on somebody, usually by making them believe something that is not true [lừa phỉnh ai; giễu cợt ai.]

Ví dụ: Don't believe him. He's just pulling your leg.

(Đừng tin hắn. Hắn lừa cậu đó)

158. Keep someone at arm's length: to avoid having a close relationship with somebody [giữ khoảng cách an toàn đối với ai; không bày tỏ hết lòng với ai.]

Ví dụ: He keeps all his clients at arm's length.

(Anh ta giữ khoảng cách an toàn với khách hàng)

159. Let someone down: to disappoint someone; to fail someone.[bỏ rơi ai; làm cho ai thất vọng.]

Ví dụ: I'm sorry I let you down. Something came up, and I couldn't meet you.

160. Can't for the life of you: (informal) however hard you try [có cố gắng đến mấy cũng.]

Ví dụ: I cannot for the life of me imagine why they want to leave.

161. Air one's linen in public: (British English, disapproving) to discuss your personal affairs in public, especially something embarrassing [vạch áo cho người xem lưng.]

Ví dụ: They are arguing again. Why must they always air their dirty linen in public?

(Họ lại cãi nhau. Sao lúc nào họ cũng vạch áo cho người xem lưng?)

162. Keep a stiff upper lip: to keep calm and hide your feelings when you are in pain or in a difficult situation [cắn răng chịu đựng.]

Ví dụ: He was taught to keep a stiff upper lip and never to cry in public.

(Anh ta được dạy phải kiềm chế cảm xúc, không bao giờ khóc trước mặt người khác)

163. Be at loggerheads (with somebody) (over something): in strong disagreement[ bất hòa; xung khắc; hay cãi cọ; khắc khẩu.]

Ví dụ: The two governments are still at loggerheads over the island.

(Hai chính phủ vẫn tranh chấp với nhau về hòn đảo)

164. A born loser: (rather informal) a person who is regularly unsuccessful, especially when you have a low opinion of them [người luôn luôn thất bại trong cuộc đời; người lao đao; lận đận.]

Ví dụ: He's a born loser.

165. Louse up something: to ruin something; to mess someone or something up.[làm hỏng hoàn toàn cái gì; làm tan nát điều gì.]

Ví dụ: You really loused me up! You got me in a real mess!

(Cậu giết tôi rồi! Câu ban cho tớ cái mớ hỗn độn này!

166. Not do...for love or money: if you say that you cannot or will not do something for love nor money, you mean that it is impossible to do or that you will not do it whatever happens [hết cách giải quyết; không...dù có giá nào đi nữa.]

Ví dụ: He's hopeless and unreliable. I wouldn't give him a job for love nor money.
